General Surgery is a surgical specialty that focuses on abdominal intestines including esophagus, stomach, small bowel, colon, liver, pancreas, gallbladder and bile ducts, and often the thyroid gland (depending on the availability of head and neck surgery specialists). They also deal with diseases involving the skin, breast, soft tissue, and hernias. These surgeons deal mainly with issues involving the torso, or abdomen of the human body. General Surgery is an “umbrella” term encompassing a variety of ailments, diseases, and procedures from a simple wart removal to liver and colon surgeries.
